Embrace Nebraska, an organization dedicated to uniting Nebraska on climate action, held a climate strike today to raise awareness of climate change.
The group has voiced five demands for Nebraska lawmakers and residents to act on.
- Implement a State Climate Action Plan. Nebraska officially applied for federal funding to implement a State Climate Action Plan in 2021.
- Transition to regenerative agriculture.
- Harness our renewable energy potential.
- Prioritize public transportation.
- Protect Nebraska water resources.

“We want to take care of our planet. The one planet that we have and we share together.”

Will Green, a 21-year-old student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from Kansas City, said he has been aware of climate change from a young age. He recalled driving up to Lincoln during the flooding in 2019 with his dad and seeing a place so close to home affected by climate change.
“My dad actually has a lot of environmental policy back home in Kansas City,” Green said. “I feel the future is going to be a world ravaged by climate change.”
“It’s not only the swomee swans, barbaloot bear and humming fish that are disappearing. It’s the whooping crane, the salt creek tiger beetle, the pallid sturgeon, great cultural symbols of the state of Nebraska, vanishing.”
